history of pomarosa rv

The Pomarosa RV Park was originally known as "Lazy Oaks RV Park."  It was built and operated by Billy Davidson, Jr.  The race track "Bandera Downs" was in operation at that time and Mr. Davidson catered to race horse owners.  He allowed them to bring their horse trailers and to stake out the horses around the park.  He operated out of an old mobile home which was located where our Recreation Hall now stands.

On November 12, 1996 Mike and Julie Redden purchased the park.  They changed the name to Stagecoach RV Park and operated the park from their Motor Home. In addition to the name change, they began upgrading the park.  A great entrance was built to highlight the new ownership and name.  In December, 1996 they built the cedar Office Building and the Recreation Hall was completed in March 1997.  Another nice touch was the false town front, a unique way to hide the water plant and storage building. Prior to getting into the RV Park business, the Reddens had operated an exotic animal farm.  They used that background to open an Exotic Animal Petting Zoo next to the entrance of the park.  The zoo contained fallow deer, pygmy goats, llamas and miniature donkeys.  The petting zoo was a novelty for the area and brought visitors to the park.  A "Grand Opening" for the upgraded park was held on March 29, 1997.  It was well attended by the community.  There was a big park parade with band featuring bagpipes.  There was dancing in the streets, stagecoach rides and a big barbeque dinner.  The local newspaper was out to take pictures and do a big article about Stagecoach RV Park.  During the summer and fall of 1997 the Reddens added 19 additional RV spaces which brought the park capacity to a total of 50 full hook-up spaces.  They were operational for the winter season. The large pond was completed in late September 1998.  The Reddens stocked it with bass and catfish.  They elected to purchase the stock fish so no fishing license would be required for the park guests to fish.

In December 1998 Ken and Margaret Willis purchased Stagecoach RV Park.  They encouraged non-denominational Sunday church services conducted by Jim and Linda Brown, chaplains of Campers for Christ Ministries.  Jim Brown was also the manager for the park and as such, built the religious bias that was characterized by the select residency. They kept the park clean, encouraged planned and unplanned activities and were specially proud of their Sunday church services held in the Recreation Hall every week during the winter season. However, after a brief ownership of just a year and half, Ken and Margaret Willis sold the park.

Pomarosa Inc. purchased the park from Ken and Margaret in June 2000.  Due to their business commitments in Canada at the time, they employed manager Gail Wetmore to operate the park on their behalf for nine months. Upon their return from Canada in March 2001 they took charge upon the management and re-named the park to Pomarosa RV Park, a unique name for a unique park.  They modernized management by the use of computers, specialized software, Credit Card machine, wireless communications, advertisements and added many amenities to serve park residents better.  They also planted 85 additional trees to beautify the park for the years to come.
